Brewing Basics

No matter the brewing technique these are important basics to follow.

1. – EXCELLENT QUALITY BEANS
PT’s buys only the top 1% of coffee in the world. Imagine the coffee of the world as a pyramid—-our coffee comes from the point!

2. – FRESH ROASTED COFFEE
It is important coffee is roasted within two weeks of brew time, coffee begins to lose flavor after about 12 days even if stored.

3. – USE CORRECT GRIND
Use the suggested grind for best results. As a general rule, the longer the water contact will last, the coarser the grind needs to be (suggested grinds are given in specific method instructions).

4. – GRIIND COFFEE JUST BEFORE BREW
Once coffee is in the ground form, it will stale quickly. It is important to grind your coffee just before you begin brewing.

5. – DOSING THE COFFEE
Use 2 – level tablespoons per 6-ounces of water. After you’ve made a few pots adjust to taste.

6. – CLEAN EQUIPMENT IS ESSENTIAL
For best results always clean equipment with water and elbow grease immediately following the brew cycle (elbow grease sold separately).

7. – USE PURE WATER FOR BEST RESULTS
Coffee is 98% water using tap water will cause the great coffee you just purchased to take on a tanked flavor. For the best results use fresh pure (not distilled) water.

Press Pot
First fact to know – a “French Press” or “Press Pot” is the easiest and best way to get truly exceptional coffee house flavor from your coffee at home.

1. – GRIND YOUR COFFEE
For the best results grind coffee on a coarse setting with a burr grinder.

2. – PREPARE THE WATER
Bring water to a boil, remove from heat and wait about 45-60 seconds before aggressively pouring (insuring even saturation) over the grounds.

3. – TIME YOUR EXTRACTION
To get the best results time your extraction after saturating the grounds with water. Start a timer and allow coffee to extract for 4 minutes, stir the grounds into the coffee, remove spoon and plunge grounds to bottom. Allow the coffee to sit for about 30 seconds and settle. Then pour into a pre-heated cup.

Drip Brewer
l. Grind your coffee – For the best results grind coffee to a medium grind.

2. POUR WATER INTO BREWING SYSTEM

3. DO NOT ALLOW COFFEE TO SIT ON THE HEATING ELEMENT
Sitting for an extended period of time on the heating unit will cause the coffee to take on a burnt flavor. As an alternative, store coffee in a stainless steel carafe to help maintain both heat and freshness.
