Cash and Cakes for American Diabetes Association

Step Out Walk LogoJoin us for Cash and Cakes Sunday, October 3, 2010 from 8 am to Noon. This month Cash and Cakes benefits Team Dancing Mule, which is participating in the American Diabetes Association’s fundraising walk, Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes. Every step we take and every dollar we raise will make a difference in the lives of 23.6 million Americans living with diabetes.

The American Diabetes Association provides community-based education programs, protects the rights of people with diabetes and funds critical research for a cure. Did you know that 1 in 3 children in the United States face a future with diabetes? The American Diabetes Association works everyday to change the frightening future that diabetes has in store.

Team Dancing Mule is walking in one girl’s honor.
We’re walking in honor of one of those children facing diabetes that we know and love: Isabel Hart. Isabel is the 10-year-old daughter of one of the Dancing Mule Coffee Company proprietors, and she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in April 2010. We’re proud of Isabel’s courage in facing this challenge and taking control by giving her own insulin shots right from the beginning! Instead of feeling sorry for herself, Isabel is supporting the American Diabetes Association. She organized her friends to sell tickets for a Hat Day at school and sold lemonade and cookies to raise money for her own Step Out Walk fundraising goal. This summer Isabel enjoyed diabetes camp where she met other kids just like her—all due to the work of the American Diabetes Association.

What are Isabel and others like her facing?
Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. The cause of diabetes continues to be a mystery, although both genetics and environmental factors appear to play roles. There are 23.6 million Americans living with diabetes, a disease that is outpacing heart disease, cancer and AIDS. Diabetes is a disease that has deadly serious consequences, and there is no cure.

Walking for the cause helps raise funds for the mission of the American Diabetes Association: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. So, join us at Dancing Mule Coffee for all-you-can-eat pancakes for $5 while listening to Johnny Cash music. Proceeds from pancake sales go directly to Team Dancing Mule’s Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes fundraising goal of $1,500! If you want to make a donation to our team’s efforts directly, go online to http://main.diabetes.org/goto/TeamDancingMule and choose a walker at the bottom of the page to support.

(Wearing black is encouraged but not required at Cash and Cakes, and other forms of payment besides cash are accepted.)

GREAT CAKES. GREAT COFFEE. GREAT CAUSE.

Help Raise Cash for Crosslines Family

omplogoOzark Mountain Paddlers and Dancing Mule Coffee are teaming up to sponsor a family for Christmas this year. OMP has sponsored a family through Crosslines in the past and we feel it is important to return to this tradition since this Christmas will be difficult for so many families.

Dancing Mule Coffee will donate the proceeds from our Sunday, December 6th Cash and Cakes fundraiser to the Crosslines family. Dancing Mule will serve all you can eat pancakes Sunday morning from 8 am – 12 pm for $5 per person. All of the money collected for pancakes will go to the Crosslines family.

The Johnny Cash part comes from the family tradition of playing Johnny Cash on Sunday mornings at the Austin household, so you will have to endure the music while you eat your cakes. A small price to pay to help a family with Christmas. We will accept additional donations for the family at Cash for Cakes and the OMP Christmas Party.

dollarWhat in the world are Mule Bucks? Well, contrary to what you might think, ‘Mule Bucks’ is not the random bucking of a dancing mule!  They are the dollars that Dancing Mule Coffee donates each month for a local charity of choice.

Currently, they can be generated by attending the Cash for Cakes fundraisers held on the first Sundays of the month AND by joining and using our Blastoff social network page at MuleBucks.com.  Be one of the first to join our network before Blastoff Network goes public in a couple of weeks.  Hint:  watch for the fliers on the Pizza Hut pizza boxes beginning on Oct 27th!

Our selected organization for November is Aids Project of the Ozarks.  Spread the word and help support!
